Screening of the Documentary Maynard - Democrats Abroad

6, rue du Colonel Combes | 75007 Paris
1st floor
Thursday, September 20, 2018 - 19:00 to 21:00

As the first black mayor of Atlanta, a major southern city, this documentary explores Maynard Jackson's vision of global inclusion through economic development. In 1968, after the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy, Mr. Jackson announced his candidacy for the Georgia U.S. Senate against known segregationist, Herman Talmadge. His loss ignited a movement in the south started by Dr. King and continued by Mr. Jackson and fellow supporters. As the enforcer of affirmative action and voter turnout, Mr. Jackson crafted successful diversity, inclusion and engagement templates still practiced today. His dedication and service transformed the reputation of Atlanta from the heart of the confederate south to a world-renowned cosmopolitan city.

A cocktail reception will follow the screening.
