The Center for Writers and Translators at the American University of Paris is delighted to present, in collaboration with the , a conversation with Vanessa Onwuemenzi about泭Dark Neighbourhood, her debut collection of short fiction. Published last October, the volume was named a泭Guardian泭Best Fiction of 2021. She sends English off on a great line of flight, novelist Tom McCarthy has remarked of Onwuemenzis writing, from which it returns as poetry.

Vanessa Onwuemezi泭lives in London. Her work has appeared in泭Granta,泭Prototype,泭frieze泭硃紳餃泭Five Dials. Her story At the Heart of Things won the泭White Review泭Short Story Prize 2019.
Daniel Medin泭is an editor and professor of comparative literature at the American University of Paris.
