When LloydDeLamaterestablished the American College in Parisin 1962, he sought to bridge the gap of narrow nationalisms, creating an institution that would educate those ready to explore a world far beyond their birthplace.泭Today, it is that same vision that propels a new generation.純
In the spring of 2020, the world wasshakenby the Black Lives Mattermovementin response to the murder ofGeorge Floydat the hands ofpolice officers. Images of Floyds murderreignitedthe BLM movementacross the globe aspeople of all backgroundsunited against racism and the unabashed assault皋n浮lack bodies. Black studentsand alumniat AUPquickly convenedwith faculty, staff and leadershiptoadvocatefor further support ofBlack studentsand alumniat the狹niversity.狼hrough town hallsand open house discussions, manystudents and alumni of colorcame forward with stories of discrimination, feelings of othernessand erasure, and the desire for support, mentorship and communityfromwithin the University.泭
As a part of theUniversitys multi-tiered response, 91勛圖厙has begun to formtheBlack Alumni atAUPorganization.泭Black Alumni at AUPwill support and welcome all self-identifying Black alumni, allies,and former students who have completed at least one semester of study at AUP.泭
In partnership with the University,themissionofBlack Alumni at AUPis toprovide盍esources, create皋pportunities,畝nd support those whoexperiencediscrimination and racial injustice.涉s畚itizens皋f theworld,our humanity binds us to the cause of胼bridging the gap of narrow nationalisms畝nd盎haping a better病uture病or畝 new generation.胼純
